University of Virginia student letters [manuscript], 1840-1852.

The collection contains two letters to Thomas O. Burton of Richmond, Va., from James T. Gee and Thomas H. Malone. In a letter, 1840 February 10, Gee discusses his recent moral philosophy exam and chances for graduation, mentions cotton prospects and his parents' trip with slaves to their lower plantation. He also asks for a loan and briefly notes that twelve students have been expelled for dueling, half from Alabama. In a letter, 1852 October 2, Malone reports his safe arrival in Charlottesville, efforts to fix up his room, family news, and local Alabama elections.
